Update Your Application Details

Understand the process for editing, correcting, or updating information on a submitted UK ETA application.

When Can You Update an Application?

In some circumstances, it may be possible to modify certain details on your UK ETA application after submission. The ability to make changes depends on the current processing status of your application and the nature of the modification you wish to make. Understanding when and how modifications can be made helps you manage your application effectively.

It is important to note that once an application has progressed beyond certain processing stages, modifications may no longer be possible. In such cases, you may need to submit a new application with the correct information. This is why we strongly recommend reviewing all details carefully before submitting your initial application — prevention is always better than correction.

The types of modifications that may be accepted vary depending on the significance of the change. Minor corrections such as a misspelled name or incorrect date format are generally easier to process than major changes such as updating passport details or changing travel dates entirely.

Types of Modifications

Modifications to UK ETA applications generally fall into two categories, each with different processes and likelihood of acceptance:

Minor Corrections

Small errors or typos that do not fundamentally change the application. These are generally easier to process:

  • Correcting a spelling error in your name
  • Fixing a date format issue
  • Updating your email address or phone number
  • Correcting a minor error in your address
  • Adding a missing middle name

Major Changes

Significant changes that may affect the processing or validity of your application. These may require a new application:

  • Changing passport details (new passport issued)
  • Altering the nationality listed on the application
  • Significantly changing travel dates
  • Changing the purpose of your visit
  • Updating answers to eligibility questions

How the Modification Process Works

1

Log Into Your Account

Access your ETA UK CENTER account using the email address and reference number you provided during the application process. Navigate to the application you wish to modify and review its current status.

2

Identify the Changes Needed

Carefully identify exactly which fields need to be updated. Note down the incorrect information currently on your application and the correct information that should replace it. Being specific helps our team process your request more efficiently.

3

Submit a Modification Request

If online modification is available for your application status, follow the on-screen prompts to update the relevant fields. If the online editing option is not available (because your application has progressed beyond the modifiable stage), submit a support request with full details of the changes needed.

4

Provide Supporting Documentation

For certain types of changes, particularly those related to passport details or personal information, you may need to provide supporting documentation. For example, if you have a new passport, you may need to provide the new passport number and details.

5

Await Confirmation

After your modification request is submitted, our team will review it and process the changes if possible. You will receive a confirmation email once the modifications have been applied. Verify that all changes are reflected correctly in your updated application.

Modification by Application Status

Your ability to modify your application depends on its current processing stage:

Submitted (not yet in processing)

Most modifications can typically be made at this stage. Log into your account to edit fields directly or contact support for assistance.

Under Review

Some minor corrections may still be possible, but major changes are unlikely to be accepted. Contact support as soon as possible if changes are needed at this stage.

Security Checks

Modifications are generally not possible once security checks have begun. If you have identified an error, contact support immediately to discuss your options.

Decision Made

If a decision has already been issued, the application cannot be modified. If the information on your approved ETA is incorrect, you will need to submit a new application with the correct details.

New Passport After ETA Approval

One of the most common modification scenarios involves obtaining a new passport after your ETA has been approved. Since the UK ETA is electronically linked to a specific passport, a new passport means your existing ETA will no longer be valid for travel. In this situation, you will need to submit a new ETA application using your new passport details.

This applies whether you have renewed your passport, been issued a replacement due to loss or damage, or obtained a new passport for any other reason. The old ETA cannot be transferred to a new passport — a fresh application is always required.

We recommend timing your passport renewal and ETA application carefully. If you know your passport will expire soon, consider renewing it before applying for your ETA to avoid the need for a second application.

Tips to Avoid Needing Modifications

Double-check all information against your physical passport before submitting your application.
Have someone else review your application details for errors before you hit submit.
Ensure your travel dates are as accurate as possible — minor flexibility is usually acceptable.
Use the correct email address and verify it is typed correctly to ensure you receive all communications.
Complete the application in a quiet environment where you can concentrate on accuracy.
