Withdraw Your Application

Understand the process, conditions, implications, and refund eligibility of withdrawing a UK ETA application.

Understanding Application Withdrawal

If your travel plans have changed, you no longer require a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation, or you need to resubmit with corrected information, you may wish to withdraw your application. The withdrawal process and its implications depend on the current processing status of your application and how far along it is in the processing pipeline.

It is important to understand that withdrawing an application is different from requesting a refund. Withdrawal relates to the removal of your application from the processing queue, while refund eligibility is determined separately based on our Refund Terms and the stage of processing at the time the withdrawal is requested. These are handled as two distinct processes.

Before proceeding with a withdrawal, we recommend carefully considering whether it is the right step for your situation. In many cases, it may be possible to modify your existing application rather than withdrawing and resubmitting. Our support team can help you assess the best course of action based on your specific circumstances.

When Can You Withdraw?

The possibility of withdrawing your application depends on its current processing stage. The earlier you request a withdrawal, the more straightforward the process tends to be:

Before Processing Begins

If your application has been submitted but has not yet entered the active processing queue, withdrawal is generally straightforward. Contact our support team as soon as possible for the best outcome. At this stage, the service work has been minimal, and refund eligibility is more favourable.

During Active Processing

Once your application is being actively processed by UK authorities, withdrawal options become more limited. We will make every effort to accommodate your request, but it may not be possible to halt processing that is already underway. Our team will advise on what options are available.

After a Decision Has Been Made

If a decision has already been made on your application (whether approved or refused), withdrawal of the application itself is no longer applicable. If your ETA was approved, you are not obligated to use it for travel — simply not travelling on it is sufficient.

Duplicate Applications

If you have accidentally submitted a duplicate application, contact our support team immediately. We can assist with identifying and resolving duplicate submissions to ensure only the correct application is processed. Duplicate submissions should be addressed as quickly as possible.

Withdrawal Process

If you have decided to withdraw your application, follow these steps:

1

Contact Support

Reach out to our support team through our Contact Us page or via email. Include your full name, application reference number, and the email address associated with your application. Clearly state that you wish to withdraw your application.

2

Provide a Reason

While not always mandatory, providing a reason for your withdrawal helps our team process your request more efficiently and may be relevant for refund eligibility assessment. Common reasons include changed travel plans, duplicate submission, or the need to resubmit with correct information.

3

Await Confirmation

Our team will review your request and confirm whether the withdrawal can be processed based on the current status of your application. You will receive a confirmation email once the withdrawal has been actioned, along with information about any applicable refund.

4

Refund Assessment

If applicable, a separate refund assessment will be conducted based on the stage of processing at the time of withdrawal and the terms of our Refund Policy. You will be informed of the refund outcome and timeline.

Common Questions About Withdrawal

Will I receive a refund if I withdraw? — Refund eligibility depends on the stage of processing at the time of your withdrawal request. Please refer to our Refund Terms page for detailed information about conditions, eligible amounts, and timelines. Government fees and service fees have separate refund terms.
Can I reapply after withdrawing? — Yes, withdrawing an application does not prevent you from submitting a new application in the future. If you still require a UK ETA, you are free to submit a fresh application at any time with the correct information.
How long does withdrawal processing take? — Withdrawal requests are typically processed within a few business days. You will receive a confirmation email once the withdrawal has been completed. During peak periods, this may take slightly longer.
What if I withdraw but still want to travel to the UK? — If you withdraw your application but later decide to travel to the UK, you will need to submit a new ETA application. Your previous application will no longer be valid after withdrawal.
Can I withdraw on behalf of someone else? — If you submitted an application on behalf of another person (such as a family member or child), you can request a withdrawal on their behalf. You will need to provide the relevant reference number and proof of your relationship to the applicant.
What happens to my personal data after withdrawal? — Your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Data Privacy policy. Some information may be retained for legal and regulatory purposes, but it will not be used for any other purpose.

Alternatives to Withdrawal

Before withdrawing your application, consider whether one of these alternatives might better suit your situation:

Modify Your Application

If you need to correct information rather than cancel entirely, it may be possible to modify your existing application. Visit our Update Details page for more information.

Hold Your Application

If your travel plans are uncertain but not cancelled, you may prefer to let your application continue processing. An approved ETA does not require you to travel — it simply gives you the option to do so.

Contact Support First

Before making any decisions, contact our support team to discuss your situation. We can often help find the best solution based on your specific circumstances.

Check Processing Status

If your concern is about processing time, check your application status first. Your application may be closer to a decision than you think.
